The Department of Management was founded in 1969 as the Department of Economics, Organization and Management of Industrial Enterprises to meet the demand for experts in the organizations management to provide effective economic activity and social development. Its organizer and first head were Doctor of Economics, Professor V. Eliseev (1969-1975). Later, the department was headed by O. Orlov, B. Alekseev, Z. Korovina, I. Aleksandrov, V. Gurova, and L. Sytnyk.

The Department of Personnel Management and Labor Economics was opened at the Faculty of Economics in 1974 to meet the demand for professionals in personnel management, scientific organization of labor, remuneration and labor standardization, and socio-psychological principles of management. The founder and first head of the department was a well-known scientist, Doctor of Economics, Professor I. Kryzhko. Later the department was headed by I. Kulakov, O. Amosha, V. Plaksin, Yu. Makohon, N. Lukyanchenko, L. Shaulska, O. Doronina.

By the Rector of Vasyl’ Stus Donetsk National University order at August 30, 2017, the union of the Department of Management and the Department of Human Resources Management and Labor Economics of the Faculty of Economics was approved.
